Young and Dangerous 4 (1997)

YoungAndDangerous4

This Review will contain spoilers from Past films in the series as well as this film.

With the death of Mr. Chiang (Simon Yam) in the 3rd movie. The branch leaders of Hung Hing attend the Wedding of Yee (Michael Tse) to KK. During the after party, Chan Ho-Nam (Ekin Cheng) and the other branch leaders meet, The Prince (Ken Lo). The Prince tells them that Mr. Chiang has a younger brother who lives in Thailand…

The Prince suggests that the Hung Hing Branch Leaders travel to Thailand and reason with Mr. Chiang (Alex Man). At the same time as the Branch Leaders are in Thailand, a Branch Leader of the Tuen Mun is killed on Chan Ho-Nam’s Turf. Now the newly Appointed Chairman, Mr. Chiang needs to decide who will take over the turf?

One half of the turf is given to Chicken (Jordan Chan) and the other half is given to The Barbarian, no not Conan. Both Chicken & Barbarian met at Yee’s wedding and they didn’t get along. Now its going full force, Barbarian enjoys disrespecting Chicken.

Chan Ho-Nam isn’t happy one bit with Chicken trying to be a branch leader, not for jealously reasons, he knows what trouble to expect from Barbarian and his crew.

Yes Karen Mok is back! Yes as Chickens girlfriend, Lam Shuk-Fan. Now she is beginning a new teaching job. Although the students are from Barbarian Group. Even Banana Skin (Jason Chu) & Pou Pan (Jerry Lamb) make appearances, working in the school, mainly keeping Shuk-Fan company. Pou Pan even finds a love interest and yes you’ve guessed it, She’s in Ba

Young and Dangerous 3 (1996)

YoungAndDangerous3

Oh Yes, a film the Y&D fans have been waiting for. In the first installment of the series we seen Chan Ho-Nam (Ekin Cheng) and his gang of merry men out smart the evil Kwan. In the sequel we see Chicken (Jordan Chan) get into all sorts of trouble in Taiwan. Now the third film of the series, Chan Ho Nam has become the branch leader of the Causeway Bay in Hong Kong. Although another group have opened a club right besides Ho Nams club…

This new group consists Camel, Tiger and Crow. Camel (Chan Wai-Man) is a reasonable fella and doesn’t want trouble from the Hung Hing group as he has been a good friend with Mr. Chiang (Simon Yam). Tiger (Chi Hung Ng who play Brother Bee in the first Y&D) seems to be rather rebellious, with his clean cut image and trendy glasses he seems to be a acceptable gang leader. Crow (Roy Cheung), now he is pure evil, through out the film you find him guilty of murder, gang rape, public shooting, blackmail and so on… Trust me when you see him go trigger happy in Holland it lets you know how sinister he is…

Now the Causeway Bay boys are all back…

Chicken has some funny moments in the film, with him rejoining Hing Hung, but he’s right at the beginning again, having to be a follower of Banana Skin (Jason Chu). He has even found a new love interest Shuk-Fan (Karen Mok), who is the daughter of THE LETHAL WEAPON! Yes our kick ass priest (Spencer Lam) is back and surprisingly enough has an army with him! Pou Pan (Jerry Lamb) is still in the group, although he seems to have gone soft…well he has always been soft but in this movie he seems to have a bad stammer instead of Smarty! Tin-Yee (Michael Tse) is back and he’s grown a goatee and got some muscles compared to the first film. He is still dating KK! And yes her big brother Tai Fai (Anthony Wong) is back too and loyal as ever. He even has a big decision to make when he is chosen to kill a member of the Hung Hing group!

Oh another positive part of the movie is Smarty (Gigi Lai) recovering from her coma. Yet she has gotten a case of amnesia. This gives Andrew Lau the chance revisit many memorable sets from the original Young and Dangerous. Including the Football pitch, the hills where they made Smarty eat Buns and Tin-Yee even recreated the scene where Smarty had stolen Ho-Nams car and tried to sell it back to him.

In conclusion Young and Dangerous III is a fine edition to its series. Having only seen the first three films, this film has kept me interested in the series and wanting to know more about the character and how they develop in further films…

Young and Dangerous 2 (1996)

YoungAndDangerous2

Young and dangerous 2 is picking up right were it left off with the last film. This time the film mainly revolves around Chan Ho-Nam (Ekin Cheng) and Chicken (Jordan Chan). The Hung Hing society have gotten the hold of 6 night clubs and 4 stalls, Mr. Chiang (Simon Yam) asks the causeway bay to choose a leader to run the clubs. The people seem to be stuck between to votes Fei (Anthony Wong) and Nam. Mr. Chiang decides to split it down the middle and give Nam half and Fei half.

The films also jumps back in the past in a crafty way. In the original movie Chick leaves Hong Kong after falling out with Nam (Nam had gotten drugged and slept with Chickens girl). The film shows you what chick done for that year away.

Chicken has now moved to Taiwan and living with his cousin Darky (Blacky Ko). Darky introduces Chick to Mr. Lui, the leader of the San Luen, another large society of Triads. Chicken becomes keen to get on Lui’s good side. Chick mange’s to successfully kill a member of the Councilors Chamber who assaulted Lui. Once returning the rest is picked up at the end of the first movie. In this movie chicken still seems the same as the last movie, although his way with women seem to have stopped, since he has meet the love of his life Yao (Chingmy Yau).

Nam hasn’t changed much either. He is still going with Smartie (Gigi Lai). Although his feelings for her have grown strong. He also plans on getting engaged to her. Although he has been tricky about it, he gave her the receipt for the engagement ring and told her “you can find the ring, we’ll get married”. She soon finds the ring as Nam leaves her in the car. Yet something tragic happens to smartie. Things seem to be getting worse and worse for Nam, with Fei’s men trashing all of Nam’s clubs and stalls.

Yi (Michael Tse) is back from the first film and glad to say he has a bigger role in the film. Yi has now has himself a girl, KK….who happens to be the younger sister of Fei. This puts Yi on the top of Fei’s to do list and ends up having Yi beating up and having KK taken away from him. This leads Yi into a case of blackmail by big brother Fei…

Fei, the nose picker, he has a terrible grudge against Nam. In the past Nam had brutally murdered his brother, so Fei is still holding the grudge, with an ice grip. Fei’s character is memorable for disgusting habits, picking his nose, digging his finger into his ears, cleaning his fingers by sticking them in his mouth and last and most likely his favorite habit is making Nam mad, for example, with smartie in hospital, Fei and his gang begin to kick about a empty tin, but this only upsets the Lethal Weapon! Yes the butt kicking priest is back and he’s giving out salvation and a good kicking in the balls!

Yao, half Japanese, half Taiwanese . She seems to be a very seductive little lady, she’s seems to have some relations with Chicken, Fei, a Mute bodyguard and the San Luen boss, Mr. Lui. Yet she happens to be more cunning than innocent as she returns later on in the film, checking up on Chick. Whilst she is visiting she decides to frame Chicken and Nam with the murder of Mr. Lui!

Murder, Black Mail, Tragedy and Nose picking are all rolled into one as The young and dangerous 2 turns out to be a very successful sequel, with it having its original cast and some new editions (Anthony Wong & Chingmy Yau) were the icing on the cake!
