So I was all set on giving up when it came to the

So I was all set on giving up when it came to the recent Leatheredspoons Real Ale Festival- the availability was spottier than a 16-year old me attempting a dot-to-dot but luckily, a lot of the ‘Coming Soon’’s eventually came, which was nice of ‘em. Highlights: The opportunity to sample two of my favourites on cask- the first being King Goblin, which was smoother, easier to drink and less complex in this incarnation (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing) and Fear of the Dark- an extremely simple but satisfying stout, which is no different on cask, with that roasted flavour being even more pronounced. Lowlights: The offerings from both Black Sheep and Adnams, which I found to be a bit dishonest in their descriptions. The two were extremely hop heavy, ‘modern’ takes on bitter, tasting more like a golden ale than anything else. So I guess it boils down to a 50/50 class-to-trash ratio (kinda like my time at Sanitation school)…either way, I’m sure you’ll find the cure for what Ales ya ! #thelagerlogs #pintsofview #beer #craftbeer #beerstagram #beersofinstagram #instabeer #ale #realale #realalefestival #wetherspoons #traditional #kinggoblin #fearofthedark #ironmaiden #stout #blacksheepbrewery #adnams

Presenting, for your consideration, my Saturday suds in all their glory- please excuse the photo dump and don’t forget to (s)wipe… Up first was a little hic-hic-hic-hic boom! with Malt Bomb from Alechemy. A very simple and satisfying brew- sweet and nutty and more easy-drinking than I expected. Next was Broughton’s latest and greatest which I would say bears more than a passing resemble to it’s Old man. Delivering on those expected toffee and brown sugar notes and coming off as a slightly tamer version of their signature scotch, it’s certainly a chip off the old Jock… And last but definitely least, I have to admit my Camra must of been out-of-focus as this one came out rather underdeveloped. It offers a smoky, roast flavour that lingers in the mouth with a lot more bitterness than I would associate with a Porter…rock solid, but nothing that made me rock hard (it didn’t even ATTEMPT to play the guitar) I do enjoy the odd beer or three so sorry if I got carried away but the stretcher was far too comfortable for me to walk… #thelagerlogs #pintsofview #beer #craftbeer #beerstagram #beersofinstagram #instabeer #broughton #broughtonale #broughtonbrewery #alechemy #alechemybrewing #maltbomb #highlandjock #1872porter #porter #malt
