Podcast On Fire 136: Milkyway Treasures – Final Justice

8 September 2012 knetan Milkyway Treasures, Podcast On Fire, PODCASTS 0:37:27 2 Comments

Enter a new filmmaker at Milkyway: Derek Chiu! Just like Johnnie To, Chiu had the finger on the pulse of quirky but Final Justice deals in religion, forgiveness, alleged rape, Eric Tsang as a vicious triad boss and the court room-drama. Still not conventional nor a hit for Milkyway but how does it work as an intelligent examination in intent? Kenny B is at hand to give you his take on it.

Podcast on Fire 135: Milkyway Treasures – Too Many Ways To Be No.1

1 September 2012 knetan Milkyway Treasures, Podcast On Fire, PODCASTS 01:48:03 0 Comments

Let’s watch the commercial elements of triads turned on its head literally with the review of Wai Ka-fai’s Too Many Ways To Be No. 1. We also scored the authority and historian on all things late 90s triad elements, i.e. our very own Stewart Sutherland who checks in to talk life, movies, plans for The Ekin Hour, The Raid, Flowers Of War and powerslides. Subsequently Kenny B sits down separately (as Stoo’s participation was last minute) by himself (Tom’s cancellation was also last minute) to talk Hong Kong’s take on the gimmick Sliding Doors and Run Lola Run also employed. The best and most odd Milkyway Treasure yet?

No Hitler-Cast, i.e. Ken doing a solo POF this week as Hong Kong Dave returns! Together with Kenny B, there’s a lengthy discussion on John Woo’s Heroes Shed No Tears, tangents on State of Grace and The Raid before the main subject of this week takes center stage: Ringo Lam’s possibly supernatural cop flick Victim starring Lau Ching-wan and Tony Leung Ka-fai.
