Take a bunch of good looking, iconic girls, plant them in movie reality courtesy of die hard movie nerd Chu Yen-Ping and you get products that probably outrages most rather than delights but that’s ok. It sparks conversation if it’s an homage or not to steal so many scenes from other movies and their music for your own. For this episode of Taiwan Noir therefore you have to imagine a paralell movie world where everything is possible. We got 80s pop star haircuts, a wild west town with 80s style grafitti, Chinese Nazis, the Ku Klux Clan and a lot is set to Ennio Morricone’s music. It’s of course a double bill of Taiwanese reefer madness in the form of Golden Queen’s Commando and Pink Force Commando! In Last Taiwanese Movies Watched, there’s challenges in devil areas and Joey Wong in a boobie flick that is equally short and long.

Plot: Ryu Saeba (Jackie Chan) is the number one guy when it comes to being a private detective and professional girl chaser, with his partner Makimura (Michael Wong). They make a indestructable duo, until Makimura dies! In Makimuras last words he plays with Ryu to look after his younger sister Kaori (Joey Wong). Although Makimura only has one request, “Keep your hands off her!”.

Saeba agrees with Makimura, until he notices that Kaori is a stunner! Saeba holds a strong face and treats her more of a sister than a girlfriend, yet she is mad for him!

One day Saeba is approached by Mr. Imamura, head of the Imamura Newspaper Company. His daughter, Kiyoko ran away after a family desput, leaving Saeba on a trail to bring her home.

Ryu Saeba ends up on a luxury cruise with Kiyoko and Kaori too has come along, but with her puny twat of a cousin. Which is quite sick when you find out he is in love with her!

Little do they know that the cruise is being taken over by Cornel MacDonald (Richard Norton) and his group of masked terrorists. Although Saeba isnt the crime fighter aboard! Tramp Kao-Ta (Leon Lai) is a fast handed card slinger. There is also sassy cop (Chingmy Yau) and her no-brained big breasted side kick! Plot: Having slept for a century, the monstrous Tree Devil is now awaken and starts finding lost souls again.

One stormy night, a wise High Priest (Lau Shun) and his student Fong (Tony Leung) pass by the Orchid Temple and realize that it is haunted. Fong encounters two evil spirits, the seductive Lotus (Joey Wong) and her hated sister Butterfly (Nina Li), in the temple. Although Fong knows his master wants to capture them, he finds himself being attracted by them so he sets them free.

The monks stay at the temple has to be prolonged since Fong carelessly loses the valuable Gold Buddha.

Later on, they come to a corrupt local town, while the high priest meets Yin (Jacky Cheung) by chance and a series of misunderstandings evolve. Meanwhile, Fong encounters Lotus again and finds himself falling in love with her… Read More

Plot: Picking up seven years after the original Chinese Ghost Story, Ning (Leslie Cheung) still wanders looking for the reincarnation of his love, Hsiao Tsing. After traveling to a village ran by thief’s, Ning is thrown in jail, being mistaken for a bearded man called Chow Bing. Ning is accompanied by a Elderly man who was thrown in jail for writing books, yes writing books. He wrote a book about a powerful man and then was arrested for the suspicion of being a Rebel.

As the months pass, Ning is rewarded with a delicious meal of chicken. Yet it turns out this is his last meal before he gets beheaded. The Elderly man decides to help Ning and allows him to use the secret escape root hidden in the cell. The old man gives Ning a set of new clothes and a medallion and insists he leaves. Read More

A Chinese Ghost Story (1987)

Plot: Ling Choi San (Leslie Cheung) is a humble tax collector who arrives in a small village to collect the tax from some of the local businesses. Unsurprisingly, no one is willing to give him shelter for the night, so he decides to travel through the forest to the Lan yeuk temple, which turns out to be abandoned and haunted.

Whilst staying there for the night he meets a Taoist Swordsman Yin Chek Hsia (Wu Ma), who warns him about the evil sprits. Unable to sleep Ling wonders off into the forest where he meets the beautiful Nip Siu Sihn (Joey Wong), with whom he falls in love with.

Unfortunately, Siu Sihn turns out to be a ghost, bound for all eternity by a hideous tree spirit (Lau Siu-Ming) with an incredibly long tongue that wraps itself round its victims and sucks the life right out of there body, but this wont stop Choi San… Read More

The Banquet (1991)

Plot: Wealthy property director – Tsang Siu-Chi (Eric Tsang) and his contractor Jacky (Jacky Cheung) managed to buy two of four property’s. When he buy’s all four he plans on knocking them down and replacing them with a grand hotel. Yet his arch rival Hung Tai-Po (Sammo Hung) managed to buy the last two. Both developers wanting to make this grand hotel, they decide to agree on a 50/50 purpose.

When returning home Jacky lets in on a scheme which could land them a nice one billion dollars. The prince of kuwait, Allabarba (George Lam) is coming to Hong Kong to look for a tender for his properties there. Jacky has also done his research, the prince was a menace when he was young never paying attention to his father until after his passing, now he deeply regrets anytime he missed with his father. Now Jacky’s plan for Tsang is to show the prince the strong relationship between him and his father!

The only problem is that Tsang hasn’t seen his father for over ten years. Tsang goes off to find his father with his snobby wife (Carol Cheng), they soon find out that he is living with Tsang’s sister, Gigi (Rosamund Kwan) and her husband (Tony Leung Ka-Fai). Tsang tries to sway father Tsang (Richard Ng) to come live with them, but he refuses as he loves his simple life.

Tsang then pull’s out the big guns and plea’s for his father to stay with him since that he only haves a month and a half to live. yes, he’s got cancer! As you can expect the big guns convinced father Tsang to go home with Tsang and his Wife.

Tsang plans to throw a big banquet for the Prince and make it out to be a birthday party for his father too!

When everything seems to be going to plan, we find out that Jacky is secretly working for Hung Tai-Po and he’s going to help him convince to sign the contract over to him instead of Tsang… Read More

An Eternal Combat (1984)

Plot: When a Taoist Priest – Cho-Lo (Lam Ching-Ying) and his two understudies (Parkman Wong and Shing Fiu-On) go on a quest to stop an Evil Japanese Ghost from killing villagers. They find themselves thrown one thousand years into modern day Hong Kong. Separated from his understudies, the priest ends up in a insane asylum when he tells people that he is a ‘Taoist Priest hunting down a Japanese Ghost’.

The Priest gets nicknamed ‘Teacher Hut’ by his asylum buddies and they even manage to help him escape from the asylum to search for his understudies. The Priest takes refuge in one of the asylum councilors homes, councilor Gigi (Joey Wong) believed in Cho-Lo’s story about the past and wants to help reunite him with his understudies, Wong and Ma.

Both Wong and Ma ended up arriving in a church, scared of their new surroundings they decide to hide in the church’s spare room, burning the bibles and cooking Cho-Lo’s carrier pigeons for food. The priests soon discover that the two are burning their precise bibles and throws them out on the streets looking for their teacher and something to eat!

Strangely enough the Japanese Ghost ended up at the Church the night both Wong and Ma arrived, but the power of a giant cross on stage absorbs him! The only way the ghost can get out is by possessing a human. The Ghost manages to posse the body of Gigi’s ex-boyfriend Ben (Anthony Wong). Now with the ghost taking over Ben, Cho-Lo and his disciples must save Gigi from the Ghost and find some way back to Ancient China. Read More
