Podcast On Fire 364: Three Films By Chang Cheh – The Magnificent Trio, The Butterfly Chalice & The Trail Of The Broken Blade

In this episode we’re looking at The Magnificent Trio, a milestone in the studio’s early wuxia cycle where Chang Cheh takes a cue from Japan’s Three Outlaw Samurai.

We’re also giving a spotlight to two other early Chang Cheh films from this period: 1965’s The Butterfly Chalice, a huangmei opera that somehow fits both musical numbers and a face split in half, and 1967’s Trail Of The Broken Blade, made during the same year Chang Cheh became a household name with One-Armed Swordsman.

With Kenny and Paul Fox.
