Magic Cop (1989)

MagicCop

Plot (Megastar): Fung (Lam Ching-Ying), an experienced policeman, had his quiet and beautiful life in Tung Ping Chu. One day, the old lady living next door came to ask him to go Hong Kong Island to get back the dead body of her daughter, a stewardess who was killed by the police as being suspected to be a drug smuggler.

Fung found that the ‘Stewardess’ had actually been killed before she came back to Hong Kong. She had been turned into a living corpse and controlled by a Japanese magician (Michiko Nishiwaki) for smuggling.

With Fung’s supernatural skill and detective technique, they finally find out the location of the secret altar of the Japanese magician…

Review: Fung isn’t alone in the case. He’s teamed up with two cops ‘Lam’ (Wilson Lam) and ‘Head’ (Miu Kiu Wai). Head is naive when it comes to learning about the dead and becomes Fung’s assistant wanting to learn his ways. Lam is too busy trying to hit on Fung’s niece Lin, whom he brought with him to Hong Kong.

Now down to the cast who else would you hire to play a police officer to battle the supernatural? Hong Kong’s answer to the Ghost Busters – Lam Ching-Ying. Apart from the main cast, appearances from Wu Ma as Lam & Head’s Police Chief, who was a partner with Fung in the past. Frankie Chin as a Body Builder who was the boyfriend of the dead flight attendant, but also has his connections with the magician. Billy Chow makes an appearance as Michiko’s bodyguard, he even has a pretty decent fight with Lam Ching-Ying at the end of the movie.

Now coming to terms with past Mr. Vampire movies this has to be my second vampire movie to the original Mr. Vampire, Lam Ching-Ying is just so cool! All his little taoist tricks and using Miu Kiu Wai as his guinea pig is just great.

Final thoughts – Rocking Film! Just Great…..if not perfect
