Heavenly Mission (2006)

Plot: Infamous triad Autumn Yip (Ekin Cheng) has just been released from an 8 year sentence in a Thai prison. He returns back to Hong Kong as a changed man, rather killing his rivals with machetes, he’s donating vast amounts of money to several charities and becoming quite the public figure.

Yip’s sudden change of heart doesn’t fool Inspector Ming (Alex Fong) though, he knows that Yip is planning something, people don’t just change, triad is a triad and that’s that.

Another unhappy face is Ghost (Stephen Fung) a young triad in Yip’s group, Ghost was making a name for himself, until Yip returned and stole his thunder.

When Yip is reunited with his old triad buddies he asks for their help. He wants them to help him set up a supposedly legitimate business. But Inspector Ming and his Anti-Triad Unit don’t believe him for a minute.

Mad Detective (2007)

madPlot: Police Officer Wong disappeared 18 months ago after giving chase to a serial killer into the woods, his partner Chi-Wai (Gordon Lam) also gave chase, but he return miraculously unharmed.

Since then, several heists and shootings have all been performed with Wongs pistol.

RCU Officer Ho (Andy On) has been put in charge of solving this case; he decides to seek advice from former boss and personal “sifu”, Bun (Lau Ching-Wan). Bun was an incredibly talented detective who managed to solve several crimes, simply by retracing crime, step by step. He also claimed to have the ability of see people’s inner-personalities, showing their “true” personality, often exposing them as the crimes in question.

Bun was then fired from the force after being judged as mentally unstable, especially when he willingly cut off his own ear as a gift for a retiring colleague.

Ho believes straight away that Bun still has what it takes to solve this mystery. Bun’s first impression sends him into the direction of Wong’s former partner – Chi Wai. Read More

Plot: Officer Pao (Lau Ching-Wan) is the average cop who is under stress investigating a murder case. The murder is a low life thug, Mak Kwan (Francis Ng), who admits to the crime. Although Kwan is planning more serious crimes with a mainland criminal (Jack Gao).

Officer Pao and other members of the police force (including Chin Kar-Lok) are on to Mak Kwans plan, after finding various bomb-making materials discovered in Kwans apartment. This leads to hail bullets and out of control car chases as Officer Pao risks his life and his family into catching Mak Kwan off guard.

Full Alert is a great modern day cat and mouse movie. Sean Lau (aka Lau Ching Wan) is a convincing police officer, like some of his past work in The Black Mask and more recently in the Running Out Of Time Series. Sean definitely gives it his all in this movie. Read More
