The tenacious “Aunt” of director Ann Hui’s 2006 film is something of a middle aged battle-axe at odds with the ever changing sprawling city of Shanghai in which she lives (Ye Rutang played by Gaowa Siqin) we join her meeting her nephew Kuan Kuan at the train station. He soon finds his aunt to be something of a weirdo; she lets her birds fly around the flat, has an empty fridge and no mobile phone. Ergo he decides not only to escape her tenacious ways but also to fake his own kidnapping for financial gain. What happens thereafter to the poor Aunt are a series of tragic, events in which characters drift in and out whilst attempting to con “Aunt” Ye Rutang out of her money. For the first half of the movie these events are interspersed beautifully with comedy then things all get a bit too much for Ye Rutang and she retires to live with the afore-mentioned nephew in a smaller industrial town in Manchuria. The trailer for Chow Yun-Fats latest project is online! Hopefully this will save Chow Yun-Fat from the pits of fire hell! Remember? Chow Yun-Fat as the horny oldman in Dragonball: Evolution! The film is schedule for release in the Spring of 2010.

Confucius (551 BC-479 BC), was born in the ancient Chinese state of Lu, today’s Qufu City in Shandong Province. He was a great educator, philosopher, a renowned politician and the founding father of Confucianism.  The film focuses on the great philosopher’s life experiences from 51 to 73.

Plot: Detective Nick Chen (Chow Yun-Fat) is a extraordinary cop who is one of the most decorated officers in the NYPD. Although his fame comes at a price, he is linked closely with the Triads in Chinatown. His job now is to keep the ongoing gang war between the Tong and Fukinese Dragon Triads at bay.

Chen receives a rookie cop by the name of Daniel Wallace (Mark Wahlberg), Chen isn’t happy with new inexperienced partner, but he learns to live with him.

Things start to get complicated when Daniel is approached by a Triad king pin and offers him in on the same deal that Chen’s on, you get us information, we’ll give you information. But as this story unravels nothing is what it seems. Read the rest of this entry »

Plot: Resigning undercover cop – Ko Chow (Chow Yun-Fat) plans resigning are shattered when brought into the station to have a meeting with his boss, Lau (Yueh Sun). Lau tells him that has one job left to do before leaving the force. The job is to infiltrate a violent gang of jewelery thieves, to gain their trust he must pass himself off as a gun dealer, selling weapons to the gang and then work his way into the gang participating in their next heist.

Ko Chow befriends on of the gangs main men – Fu (Danny Lee), both having similar backgrounds they create a decent friendship between them. But Ko Chow is haunted by past missions when one of his best friends were killed because of him. Ko doesn’t want the same thing to happen twice. Read the rest of this entry »

Personal Thoughts: Different…yes I know your wondering why im reviewing Bullet Proof Monk, with its bad reception from Chow Yun-Fat’s past US movies. ‘Monk’ – aka The Monk with no name (played by Chow Yun-Fat), has been giving a scroll from his mentor, the scroll having some strong power behind, so it better not fall into wrong hands. Yet a group of militants take out all of the monks where he is training at, whom are after the scroll. After chasing Monk he takes a dive from a cliff, with the scroll.

Monk some how appears 60 into the future (2004) where he helps a girl in need with help from a pickpocket, Kar (played Seann William Scott). Kau earns a living pick pocketing and working in a Chinese theatre, which he developed some martial arts from watching the films, which helps him against a gang of subway thugs, including Jade (played by Jamie King). After stealing the scroll from Monk, Kar is now followed by Monk and attempts to take him under his wing and make him achieve spiritual enlightenment, yet it seems from early on Kar has feelings for Jade. Yet she tracks him down after realizing he stole her jade necklace. The group of militants are back, yes…but they have aged, the leader of the nazi’s is now in a wheelchair. Plot: Ho (Ti Lung) was sent to prison after the death of Shing (Waise Lee), although now he’s given the chance to be released from prison. Chance being that he accepts to work as an undercover agent, his mission to hunt down his master, Lung (Dean Shek) and have him arrested under the suspicion of counterfeiting. Although it turns out that Ko, Lungs right hand man, is counterfeiting the cash and frames Lung for murder.

Lung flee’s to America where he takes cover in a local church with his friend, Sam (Whom also is a ex-Triad). Yet Ko’s man have followed him. Lung manages to escape alive, but ends up going insane due to these situations.

Kit (Leslie Cheung) is still an undercover cop, who is actually working on the same case as Ho. But, Billie (Kit’s undercover name) has actually gotten close to Lung by dating his daughter, Peggy. If your wondering, yes Kit is still with Jackie and she’s pregnant!

Now with Ho meets an old friend, who is a comic book artist. He’s obsessed with Mark (from A Better Tomorrow 1). He even has collected the jacket he wore the night he died. The coat was known to contain over 40 bullet holes! Ho soon finds out from the artist that Mark actually has a twin brother named Ken (Chow Yun-Fat). But he lives in America running a Chinese Restaurant.

Ken seems quite harmless until one day where he as to fight off some Americans whom trying to force Ken into paying them protection money. Ken refuses and ends up shooting one person and embarrassing the other.

Ken soon finds out about Lung (also his master) turning insane and finds out that he is being kept in an local asylum. Ken knows that locking him up in a padded room wont help, so Ken takes Lung home. Both Ken and Lung return to Hong Kong to meet Ho and Kit.
