Jackie Chan and the Kung Fu Kid (2009)

Zhang Yi-Shan spends his days dreaming of becoming the chosen disicple of Jackie Chan. Yi-Shan spends his time being bullied at school, Yi-Shan isn’t a weakling by any shot, he’s athletic, but not brainy, so it’s the jock being made fun of by the poetry group basically.

When planning on visiting his grand parents in Beijing he discovers that Jackie Chan is filming a movie in Beijing at the same time!

Straight away I must say the title of this movie is actually “Looking for Jackie“, not  “Jackie Chan and the Kung Fu Kid“. The obvious tie-in to Jackies leading role in the summer blockbuster remake of The Karate Kid, very clever marketing isn’t it!

It’s a shame this movie hasn’t matched the production quality of The Karate Kid. Straight away you notice the movie is shot for Television, similar to Yuen Biao in The Boxers Story.

For those Jackie enthusiasts, Jackie does appear for a decent fight scene in the opening of the movie, which looks as if it came straight out of Kung Fu Hustle and then Jackie returns to hang around for the last twenty minutes. For the rest of the movie we have to put up with the whiny teenager! At least we get a cameo appearances from Yuen Wah and random other stars of yesterday.

Overall, give this one a pass people!
