STFU! – Ip Man (2008)

This weeks “Stoos Top Fights Unleashed!” is from last years bone crunching biopic masterpiece Ip Man, starring our man Donnie Yen!

Setting the Scene: The Japanese army have occupied China; Japanese soldiers are rounding up Chinese martial artists making them fight against black belt karate fighters for the amusement of General Miura (Played by Hiroyuki Ikeuchi). Bags of rice are given out to the Chinese fighters if they manage to beat their soldiers.

Our leading man Ip Man (Played by Donnie Yen) has no choice but to watch in terror as one of his peers shot dead after loosing a spar against three Japanese solders. Ip Man gets the chance to avenge his fallen martial brother by offering to fight against ten Soldiers.

The Action: I knew this would be a classic fight scene when Ip Man challenged ten! Ten karate martial artists! The action is amazingly well done; this looked more like a UFC massacre rather than a spar.

The action choreographers are Sammo Hung and Tony Leung Siu-Hing. Unlike past Yip and Yen movies the action in this movie isn’t heavily wired orientated nor is it sped up to ridiculous speeds like past movies. The excellent work put into the action scenes in this movie were obviously recognized as Sammo and Tony Leung were awarded the Best Action Choreography award at the 28th Annual Hong Kong Film Awards.

Who took the Bump? 2:27 mark, man that looks like he was receiving the massage from hell! The poor lads ribcage probably got turned to a fine powder! The only advantage is that he is probably more flexible now, although every time he stands up he would end up folding over and head butt his own shins!

Wow, powerful stuff… especially when he punches out the last guy repeatedly in the face.
